What belongs in a first message to an agency

Six lines are enough. What helps, and what an agency does not need to know.

Six lines will do

An agency needs a name, a phone number, a date or date range, a time, a duration and a location. After that, optionally a profile that caught the eye, or a request for a suggestion.

Nothing more is needed for a first reply. A long explanation up front rarely produces a better suggestion.

What does help

One line about the occasion. A first time, a birthday, a period when things are not going well at home: that changes which name an agency proposes.

And one line about what should not happen, which is more useful than a list of what may, because it puts the sharpest limit on the table straight away.

What an agency does not need

A surname is rarely needed in a first message. An address only once a home visit is arranged. A date of birth, an employer or a national identity number never.

An agency asking for those in first contact is asking too much.

The reply

A good reply carries a name, confirmation of date and duration, and a total including travel costs. If the last of those is missing, that is the first follow up question.

No reply at all? Agencies point out themselves that messages land in spam filters. After half a day of silence, calling is faster than writing again.

Editorial note

Which fields an agency expects in a request can be seen on the booking page of The Men's Company.

Unpaid note. dutchgigolo.nl has no commercial relationship with the agencies mentioned and receives nothing for bookings made there.
