What an agency checks

Identity and age are verified, photographs are requested and an interview follows. The interview counts for more. Agencies look at whether someone can hold a conversation, recognise another person's limit and keep to an agreement.

Age and type

The minimum is eighteen; in practice registration starts around twenty five. At the same time there is steady demand for men over forty and over fifty, who are scarce at most agencies.

What is left

The rate on a profile is not what someone keeps. A share goes to the agency, which handles the introduction, the diary and the screening, and travel money covers the driving and nothing else. A new registration sits at the lower end of the market and receives few requests in the first months.

A few bookings a month in the first year is realistic, more as feedback accumulates. As a main income it almost never works.

Administration

In the Netherlands nearly everyone works self employed: registration with the Chamber of Commerce, own bookkeeping and own tax returns. Belgium has comparable rules. Agencies provide information but do not take it over.

Evenings, weekends, a lot of driving and conversations that are more often about nerves than anything else. Those who last name the same thing: listening is the work.
